Summit new heights and take in more views this season! If you’re looking for the next climbing destination, we’ve got your back. Here’s a list of epic east coast peaks to mount this summer.
Mount Katahdin
The largest mountain in Maine provides a jaw-dropping view of Baxter State Park from the peak. To topple Baxter Peak you’ll need to dedicate an 8-12 hour day of strenuous hiking – this trail is no joke! Access to the park is also limited. Out of state visitors have to make their plans and register a few weeks before visiting currently. Make sure to check the Baxter State Park website to plan your trip ahead of time.
Mount Washington
A little farther south you’ll find the tallest peak on the east coast, Mount Washington in New Hampshire. A round trip up to the top will take you more than 8 hours and get you to an elevation of 6,288 feet. The mountain is famous for some of the highest recorded wind storms, so be sure to prepare for the erratic weather to conquer this trail.
Mount Marcy
If you’re visiting the Adirondack mountain range in New York, you’ll want to add Mount Marcy to your trail list. This mountain is the tallest point in New York, with an elevation of 5,343 feet. You’ll need about 7-8 hours to make the trek, and it’s suggested for experienced hikers only.
Hawksbill Mountain
Hawksbill Mountain Trail is a 1.5 mile loop in Nebo, North Carolina. The peak sits at an elevation of 4,049 feet, offering panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountain and Linville Gorge. The gorge is nicknamed “The Grand Canyon of Eastern USA” so it’s definitely a must-see destination. While the trail is short, the elevation gain is quick and the trail has a lot of small rocks. Pace yourself on the uphill trek, and watch your step.
